This weeks Vase (as part of the In a Vase on Monday meme courtesy of Cathy at Rambling in the Garden) has the three different colours of Aquilegia I have in the garden at the moment. I have a very deep purple, with a vibrant yellow centre, a pale purple and a pale pink. I have had a few different varieties over the years, I know they cross breed easily but mine always seem to ‘default’ to the dark purple after a few years. I do love the yellow stems against the dark purple. My bluebells are still going strong, so I picked a few stems to tuck in. The bright pink is from a Senetti I bought at the Supermarket around 6 weeks ago, I think it was £3 and it has been a star! I knew I needed a bit of colour to brighten my yard area whilst I was waiting for the weather to be ok for bedding plants and this has done the job perfectly. I’m really trying to garden more budget friendly this year, always checking out the supermarket plants, as well as car boots and local small garden shops, rather than rely on the bigger garden centre chains that can be very expensive. I’ve grown a few things from seed but I’m limited with space. Car boot plants are my favourite! You never know what you will find.
